the secret tool no web designer will ever reveal …
If you – like I was in the past, are struggling to figure out the best webdesign software to use, trying to get ‘the look’ of your website right etc. or perhaps you would like to build a website yourself but don’t think you could do it – then you MUST READ THIS POST !
I know some webdesigners won’t thank me for this, (sorry folks) but with the availability of really easy to use software packages – the time has come to give the power to the people! (quite liked that quote – sounds really good
) I never saw the need to fully learn html and all the other programming languages, the code purists can get on with that side, and I suppose to be fair, you need those webdesigners to create the really technical or ‘arty’ type sites.
My experience of building websites and dealing with clients is that the vast majority of people, whether for personal, business or charity use, don’t really want something too flashy. Many will want no more than the equivalent of their brochure reproduced in web style, with the inclusion of pictures, video or audio, whilst others will want a basic shopping site. But the good news is that most people could actually do this for themselves at a very low cost. Note I didn’t say free, that’s because even if you use freely available products such as Joomla, Wordpress or Zencart, you’ll still need to have your own hosting space but you can get that for around $7 a month HERE.
Over the last eight years or so I have used an assortment of software packages to build websites, depending on the look and functionality I or my client needed, and what latest easy to use webdsign software I had installed. I started out with Frontpage and Dreamweaver, moving to Namo Webeditor, Serif WebPlus, and then getting into Joomla, Wordpress and xSitepro / xSitepro 2, which I think is so good I even put together a course for it – you can find it at (xsitepro2madeeasy).
Anyone who knows me, knows my purpose now is to educate people to build and manage their own website as opposed to depending on having sites built for them by a third party, you know the analogy – give a man a fish, or teach him to fish! Now I also know and appreciate that this option won’t suit everyone, but for those with a mind to do it, I can and will show you how to get a good website up and running – and on a very small budget!
Firstly, and some may think in the wrong order – I want to show something really exciting to those of you who already use Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal or just want to get more creative with ordinary HTML templates. I’m showing this first, because I want to restimulate those who already use or have tried to use the aforementioned tools, whilst at the same time wetting the appetite of those who don’t by showing that you can easily create your own masterpiece – with just a bit of imagination and creativity, and a few mouse clicks!
Believe me – in the past, when it comes to Joomla, Wordpress and Drupal, although I never used the latter personally, creating a compliant template was a luxury which really only was available to the coding guys.
